How Text to Speech Works
This tool uses the Web Speech API (SpeechSynthesis) built into modern browsers. It converts text to natural-sounding speech using your device's installed voices.
Available voices depend on your browser and operating system. Chrome typically has the most voices, including Google's high-quality voices. Safari uses Apple's voices, and Firefox uses the system voices.
Speed ranges from 0.25x (very slow) to 3x (very fast). Pitch ranges from 0 (lowest) to 2 (highest).
π‘ All processing happens locally in your browser β your text is never sent to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this text to speech tool free?
Yes, completely free! It uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis β no API keys, no sign-up, no limits.
Why do I see different voices on different devices?
Available voices depend on your operating system and browser. macOS/iOS has Apple voices, Windows has Microsoft voices, and Chrome adds Google voices on top of system voices.
Can I download the audio?
The Web Speech API doesn't support audio download directly. For downloadable audio, you'd need a server-side TTS service. This tool is designed for real-time listening.
Is there a character limit?
We recommend keeping text under 5,000 characters for best results. Very long texts may cause issues in some browsers. You can split long content into sections.
Does my text get sent to any server?
No! All processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Speech API. Your text never leaves your device.
